FINISH LINE - 2011 SALONS
28th December 2011
The final tally has indeed changed but with the results from one salon, Photolovers Circuit in India, under the microscope the final total may change....
The total for this year is 33 awards and 284 acceptances bringing my total so far to 73 awards and 759 acceptances in National and International salons which qualify for FIAP distinctions. Interestingly, I have managed over the years to have acceptances in every salon I entered - never received a "duck egg".
This year, two salons stick out for special mention: Gran Tour delle Colline 2011 in Italy and Photolovers Circuit in India. Mr. Silvano Monchi (Gran Tour delle Colline 2011) tried to brave it out when the results went array and contestants were left in limbo with some not having their entry registered and others gaining more acceptances than possible ( I had one section entered and the others summarily discarded. In a small country like Ireland I also know of two other contestants whose entries were messed up - one gaining a refund !) - when you register your acceptances with FIAP or the PSA are they correct ?
With Photolovers I only managed 3 acceptances with my best images not registering any acceptance. I queried it because I thought there may be a problem with my preparation. I received an involved reply which basically seemed to say that the organizers may have had a problem transferring scores from one round to the next. The next thing I know is that I have another 3 acceptances - what's going on ? The acceptances list still is not finalised.
When you pay an entry fee you expect that the salon will be run to specific standards. When it all goes wrong there is just one choice - don't enter next year - there are too many other salons which are properly run.
