Recently I discovered, purely by chance, two similar images from two different photographers - both were successful in competition. Which photographer was the original author ? Read on...
Mr. Gerard Barbier(Chairman of the French Digital Tour 2010) and Mr. Willy Suys MFIAP HonEFIAP HonES-OGPH(Director of Services -FIAP) performed a little detective work and uncovered the basis of both pictures. The authors used a "template" from a recent publication - Digital Photo (author Gavin Hoey). This contravened a rule which states that the author should own each element in a picture - it should be his / her own work. "Ownership" does not transfer when a magazine is purchased !
The result ?
Well, the author admitted the infringement and all awards were negated - other authors had their pictures rightfully elevated in place of the offending image. Both Gerard Barbier and Willy Suys are to be congratulated for their swift and decisive action in this case. All authors beware...
The images here show a screen-grab with the offending image, a magazine article and an image produced by Willy Suys in a little less than a minute. If only it could be that easy !
