THE MAGNIFICENT SEVEN !
04th June 2012
The award of my seventh FIAP Gold Medal marks another milestone. I have managed to attain each FIAP Gold Medal with a different image. This win was particularly sweet as it was one of the images which formed a panel of ten images representing Ireland in this FIAP Biennial held in Turkey.
The IPF have taken a slightly different approach recently in the choice of images used in Biennials. They have chosen themes which represent the strengths of Irish photographers and which also better represent the current trends in Irish photography. This biennial was chosen under the heading of "Coastal Ireland". While the choice is made by a committee, one person deserves special mention. Denis Whelehan has taken on the job of assembling all the images, chasing entrants for uniform sizes and making sure each print is up to standard. This approach has paid off because this is the second biennial Ireland has won. Recently Ireland won the "31ème Biennale Noir et Blanc" held in Spain.
